James is a commercial lawyer with more than 15 years professional services experience.
In working with some of Queensland’s largest and smallest firms, James has provided commercial advice to a range of clients across Australia and is experienced in providing estate planning, business succession and commercial solutions to business owners and private clients.
James’ approach is to build collaborative professional relationships with likeminded advisers, regularly assisting regional and remote law firms outside Queensland’s South East corner. James has been a resident of the local area for 30 years.
James is a Chartered Tax Adviser with the Tax Institute of Australia and a Queensland Law Society Accredited Specialist in Business Law. He has presented as a speaker for both organisations as well as numerous legal education providers, national banks and community groups.
James is a director of Rivermount Education Limited and the Economics and Law Research Institute Limited. He is also the consulting General Manager of WillPoint, Australia’s leading provider of death and probate notification and will locator services.
Ash joined Esource legal in April 2016 and is the head of the litigation team.
Prior to commencing at Esource Legal, Ash was an Associate in a leading Brisbane mid-tier firm which practised predominately in commercial litigation and insolvency.
Practising exclusively in commercial litigation and insolvency, Ash maintains a predominant court-work practice and regularly appears in courts instructing counsel or as solicitor advocate without counsel.
Ash’s experience includes acting in shareholder and partnership disputes, acting for small to medium businesses and mortgagees involving the recovery of debts, loans, enforcement of mortgages, third party guarantees and the appointment of statutory trustees in the recovery phase, in addition to advising directors on a wide range of corporations issues and advising individuals in relation to personal bankruptcy issues. His experience also extends to acting for and advising liquidators, external administrators and trustees in bankruptcy on a wide range of insolvency litigation matters, including public examinations.
Initially involved in his family’s tax accounting business in Queensland and the Northern Territory, Garry expanded the business to a network of more than 42 offices employing over 120 staff in the role of General Manager before its sale in 1990. Following the sale of the family business, Garry pursued his interest in providing tax advice and accounting services to small and medium business, developing an independent network of offices throughout South East and Regional Queensland.
Garry has a penchant for structuring family businesses to minimise taxation whilst maximising asset protection and estate planning objectives.
Heather McKenzie is a paralegal with more than 7 years’ experience in small and top tier law firms providing her with exposure to debt recovery, litigation and corporate law.
Heather’s commercial background has provided her with opportunities to advise clients on a range of complex issues and develop valuable client relationships throughout Queensland.
Currently completing her Bachelor of Laws at the Queensland University of Technology with the intention of becoming a practicing solicitor in Queensland, she is driven to achieve the desired results of her clients. Heather has also been involved in a number of community investment programs providing valuable pro bono work for a range of complex situations to help people in need that otherwise would not be able to seek legal advice.
Heather assists the firm’s solicitors with property transactions, estates and a range of commercial matters and brings a friendly and hands-on approach to all her clients.
Damien is an experienced commercial lawyer with a keen focus on meeting client expectations.
Damien graduated from Bond University with a Bachelor of Laws in 2011 and was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2013. Having lived in the South of France for approximately 10 years, Damien is bilingual in French and English. Damien has worked for a number of years in law firms around Gold Coast, Sydney and Brisbane but is a proud resident of the local area for 12 years.
Damien has a keen interest in commercial law, contract drafting and dispute resolution.
